SBI Bank New Rules 2025: No More ATM or SMS Charges for Account Holders

State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank, has announced important new rules for its customers. These changes bring relief for account holders, especially when it comes to ATM charges, SMS alerts, and KYC compliance. If you are an SBI customer, it’s important to understand these updates so that you don’t face any disruption in banking services.

No More ATM or SMS Charges

From 1st May 2025, SBI will waive unsuccessful transaction charges at ATMs/ADWMs (Automated Deposit Withdrawal Machines) for BSBD (Basic Savings Bank Deposit) and KCC (Kisan Credit Card) accounts.

  • Earlier, customers had to pay ₹20 + GST for failed transactions due to insufficient balance.
  • Now, these charges are completely removed.
  • Similarly, quarterly SMS alert charges will not apply to savings accounts with average balances of ₹25,000 or below, as well as for salary package and pension accounts.

This step will help crores of SBI customers save money on unnecessary service fees.

KYC Update Deadline – 31st August 2025

SBI has made it mandatory for customers to update their KYC (Know Your Customer) details before 31st August 2025.

  • Customers who have not used their accounts for 2–3 years are especially advised to update KYC.
  • Inactive accounts are at higher risk of fraud and misuse.
  • If KYC is not updated before the deadline, SBI may freeze account services or even close dormant accounts.

Tip: If you have changed your address, mobile number, or email ID, make sure to update these details with the bank.

Other Important Updates in Service Charges

Along with ATM and SMS charges, SBI has also revised other banking fees:

  • No penalty for non-maintenance of minimum balance (already effective since March 2020).
  • Debit Card Fees:
    • Classic/Silver/Global/Contactless Debit Cards – Free issuance, ₹200 + GST annual maintenance.
    • Gold Debit Card – ₹100 + GST issuance, ₹250 + GST annual maintenance.
    • Platinum Debit Card – ₹300 + GST issuance, ₹325 + GST annual maintenance.
  • Card Replacement Charges – ₹300 + GST.
  • International Transactions – 3% to 3.5% of transaction value + GST.

These revisions ensure more transparency in service charges for different types of accounts.
